Saul changed his mind about one thing, one idea and humanity will never be the same. So did Constantine for that matter and with a similar fall out. Still, neither of those two Romans would likely even exist as they did if Sophonbiel hadn’t changed her mind.
For some reason, it seems that in today’s day and age, if you change your mind on a topic, it’s considered weak or a bad thing. Alternately if you do change your mind, your original position is the one that’s dragged along with you for life, effectively negating the change. This is an unfortunate view point as some of the most ardent supporters of a belief are the converted. Saul of Tarsus being probably the most important waffling in the history of wafflers.
If you don’t know who I’m talking about, it’s an old name and the one you may be more familiar with is Saint Paul the persecutor. Persecutor because of his original view of J.C. and the water-walkers. No one knows what he saw, but he says it was Josh, and I believe him, he also says it changed his mind. He then made a few tweaks, forcing many other followers to then change THEIR minds, and bingo-bango, what we think of as the cult of Christianity is finally ready for prime time.
It never becomes anything more than a small localized, Jewish up-rising if Saul of Tarsus doesn’t change his mind.
Again, we don’t know what made him change his mind, just that he did.
It’s the same with Constantine, although, he was less interested in symbols and gods than tactics and initiative. He was very savvy about belief though, more than I think he gets credit for.
I’ve changed my mind on a great many things, I try hard not to nail my foot to the ground whenever possible.
There’s really only a handful of hills I’m prepared to die on as far as my beliefs will go. Oppressive censorship is on that list for the reason that it prevents people FROM changing their minds.
I don’t know much, I am not an expert in anything, that which I do know has plenty of room for improvement. One thing I do know though, is that for better or worse, humanity as a whole is only where it is today because of a handful of people changing their minds.
